Submission Guidelines

 

✍️ What You Can Submit

We welcome original writing in the following formats:

 

Genres Accepted:

– Short stories (fiction or folklore): up to 1,000 words
– Poetry: up to 40 lines
– Personal essays or reflections: up to 1,000 words
– Creative non-fiction: up to 1,000 words
– Futuristic or speculative stories: up to 1,000 words
– Cultural tales or reimagined myths: up to 1,000 words

 

🎨 Themes to Explore:

  • African identity and pride
  • Family, community, or tradition
  • Dreams for Africa’s future
  • Diaspora experiences
  • Friendship, childhood, school life
  • Fantasy and folklore rooted in African culture

 

👶 Who Can Submit

AfroImagine is open to:

  • Children and teens aged 8 to 17
  • Writers of African descent, living in Africa or in the diaspora
  • Children from other backgrounds who engage respectfully with African narratives

 

 

Consent Process

To protect and empower our young writers, all submissions must include parent/guardian consent.

You will be asked to:

  • Confirm the child’s age
  • Provide Parental Consent for children aged 8-17
  • Agree to our publishing guidelines and terms

  2. Make sure it’s original and not published elsewhere
  3. Complete the submission form below

🔒 Your Rights Matter

  • You (the author) keep the full copyright to your work.
  • By submitting, you give AfroImagine permission to publish your piece online and in any future anthologies or showcases.
  • Your writing will always be credited to you.
  • With the permission of the authors, AfroImagine may publish selected works in print or digital anthologies, including on platforms such as Amazon. These anthologies may be sold to cover publishing costs and support the sustainability of the initiative. However, we will never sell individual contributions for profit or commercial exploitation.
  • Authors retain full copyright and will always be credited. No royalties are paid, but contributors will receive special recognition and visibility. Our focus remains on nurturing young talent and celebrating their creative voices.

 

🏅 What You Get in Return

AfroImagine is a non-commercial platform focused on creative recognition and growth. We do not offer financial compensation at this time. Instead, selected writers will receive:

  • A published feature on the AfroImagine platform
  • Special recognition on our website and social channels
  • A chance to earn digital storytelling badges
  • Creative feedback on selected pieces
  • Visibility in our future print anthologies and editorial collections

 

✍️ Authenticity Matters: AI & Story Submissions

While we recognise that AI may assist with general research, idea generation, and planning, submitted stories must be the student’s original work. Final pieces should reflect the young writer’s unique voice and creativity. Stories that are AI-generated or plagiarised will not be eligible for publication.
